About the Author
Kurt Vonnegut’s black humor, satiric voice, and incomparable imagination first captured America’s attention in The Sirens of Titan in 1959 and established him as “a true artist” (The New York Times) with Cat’s Cradle in 1963. He was, as Graham Greene declared, “one of the best living American writers.” Mr. Vonnegut passed away in April 2007.

Fascinating look at how the Monkey House was built

The real find here is Gregory Sumner's essay "Building the Monkey House", which traces the development of the title story through its earliest incarnations as short, unfinished drafts. We see Vonnegut experimenting with different narrators, voices, and points of view. A self-describer "basher," Vonnegut chips away until the story's eventual theme and form emerge. The early "Greta Garball" drafts showcase Vonnegut at his joke-telling best. Recommended for Vonnegut fans eager for a "behind the scenes" look at a famous story and for writers of fiction interested in the process of a world-class author. Don't miss this one.

I was introduced to Vonnegut in college when a professor handed out mimeographed copies of "Harrison Bergeron Jr" for those who had finished their tests to read. I hadn't read very far into it before the professor leaned over and asked me to enjoy the rest of it in the hallway as my laughter was distracting the other students still taking the test.

Excellent collection of short stories by KV. I really like the cover art a lot and with this version you also get a look into the development of some of the writing of the master himself. If you're a big fan of his this is essential.
