Great book for identification

I have not had time to thoroughly go through this book but I have used it for i.d. purposes. It is pretty easy to use & has clear descriptions & pictures.

A well written account of all the snakes east of West Texas

This is one of the author's better books.It has a sharp clear photos for each animal and what I like the pictures are with the text which is not the case with some other guides.Also the author shares some interesting stories from his field trips on some selected snake species.The text makes interesting reading as I read my copy from cover to cover and enjoyed every minute of the experience.I also own the companion volume Guide and Reference to the snakes of Western North America North of Mexico which is an excellent book also.The text is not overly scientific but still tells you everything you need to know about each species.There is a short section on snakes in captivity and some on conservation.All in all well worth the purchase price.

Good & clear

This book has one pic for each type of snake which shows you how they're different patterns when basically the same species but in a different latitude or part of the country. Each type is numbered in the index so you can find it easily in numerical order for like 300 snakes. I chose this book because I am interested in the snakes that I might run into, not the African & Australian ones (we have nature shows for that). So that makes this book easy to use & useful, educational and fun to read.
