Wonderful Catalogue

I live in Gainesville, FL and can visit the Harn Museum of Art often. This catalogue is the beautiful result of the hard work done by the staff and is a much deserved reward for the past 20 years of collecting. The museum has developed into one of the leading University Museums in the country: it serves the academic body, as well as the community at large, with consistently engaging exhibitions and collections.
The full color, numerous photographs are amazing. Full views and details are mixed together, creating an undulating experience of overall appreciation and intricate examination.
One of the things that make this catalogue unique among museum publications is the content of the last few chapters of the book. Essays addressing conservation, the growing relationship between art, art history, and technology, museum education, and public relations; visitors are given a behind-the-scenes look at the aspects of the museum that we pay little attention to. As visitors of the museum, certainly we notice objects out for conservation, look at the x-ray now posted next to an art object, attend a lecture or family activity, or read the museum newsletter; but the complexity of what is implied is rarely contemplated. Understanding each department enriches your experience. This unique addition combined with the stunning imagery and learned text makes this book a worthwhile purchase for the serious scholar or casual reader alike.
